Mass Unfollow: How to Unfollow Everyone on Instagram

- - BuzzVoice - 8 min de leitura

Before you start

Instagram has no native “unfollow everyone” button. To clear your Following list, review accounts individually and use Following → Unfollow; Instagram’s documented method is account by account, not a bulk selection.

If you only want a quieter feed, you may not need to unfollow everyone. Mute lets you keep a connection while hiding content, and resetting suggested content addresses recommendations, with an optional separate review of accounts you follow.

An old giveaway, a few abandoned hobbies, creators you no longer watch: your Following list can stop reflecting what you actually enjoy. If you are looking for how to unfollow everyone on Instagram, start by deciding whether you want to remove those connections or simply change what appears when you open the app.

This guide covers the manual process on your phone and computer, what to do when unfollowing stops working, and the alternatives worth trying before a full clear-out. The aim is to make deliberate changes, not race toward a zero.

Can you mass unfollow on Instagram?

Instagram’s documented unfollow method works one account at a time: open a person’s profile, select Following, and confirm Unfollow. The official instructions do not describe a one-click tool to clear your entire Following list.

That distinction matters when an app advertises “unfollow all.” A third-party tool’s promise is not an Instagram feature, and the promise alone tells you nothing about whether its access is authorized. Instagram specifically warns that unauthorized access and certain third-party interactions can lead to account restrictions.

Before going further, check which list you mean:

  • A seguir: The accounts you have chosen to follow. Unfollowing changes this connection.
  • Seguidores: The people who follow you. Removing a follower is a separate action, not what the Unfollow button does.

Instagram documents unfollowing and removing followers separately. If your goal is to stop someone following your private account, use the follower-removal controls rather than working through your Following list.

How to unfollow everyone on Instagram manually

Start with a short keep-list in your own notes. Write down close friends, work contacts, useful creators, and any private accounts you would regret losing access to. If you truly want to follow nobody, skip that list, but still review the username before each action.

On iPhone or Android

Use your Following list to organize which accounts you want to review. For the unfollow action itself, Instagram directs you to the person’s profile, where you select Following and confirm Unfollow.

  1. Abra o Instagram e vá para seu perfil.
  2. Torneira Seguindo near the top of your profile.
  3. Find an account you want to stop following. Use search within the list if it is available.
  4. Open the account’s profile and check that it is the right person or business.
  5. Torneira Seguindo, então Unfollow para confirmar.
  6. Check that the profile now says Seguir, then return to your list if you want to review another account.

Instagram confirms that the button changes from Following to Follow after a successful unfollow. Treat that as the result to look for rather than relying only on a changing total at the top of your profile.

Some layouts let you act directly from the Following list, while others present additional menus. If your screen differs, open the individual profile instead of hunting for a bulk button. These instructions are a documented workflow, not a claim that every account sees an identical interface.

Do not turn the list into a tapping marathon. Review each choice deliberately, and stop if Instagram interrupts the process or tells you that an action is unavailable.

On a computer

Open Instagram in your browser, sign in, and locate the profile you want to unfollow. You can use your profile’s Following list to organize the review, or search for an individual account.

Clique em Seguindo on the person’s profile, then Unfollow to confirm. This is the desktop method documented by Instagram; it is still an individual action, not a desktop-only way to clear the entire list.

A larger screen may make reviewing names easier, but it is not a reason to install an auto-clicker. Choose whichever device makes it easiest to recognize the accounts you want to keep.

How many people can you unfollow per day?

The official unfollow instructions reviewed for this guide do not publish a daily or hourly quota. They explain how to unfollow an account, not how many unfollows are guaranteed to be allowed in a day.

That is why this guide does not prescribe “200 per day,” “60 per hour,” or a timer between taps. A number copied from another account’s experience is not permission to keep going after your account shows a warning.

Use these practical boundaries instead:

  • Review, then act: Decide whether an account belongs on your keep-list before selecting Unfollow.
  • Stop at a warning: Do not keep retrying an action Instagram has just restricted.
  • Do not chase a daily target: Leave the remaining review for another time rather than forcing a quota.
  • Avoid automated cleanup: Do not use scripts or extensions to finish what the app has interrupted.

These are conservative working recommendations, not a promise that a particular pace prevents restrictions. If you follow thousands of accounts, plan for a gradual review rather than a guaranteed completion date.

Are mass-unfollow apps worth the risk?

For this task, the better default is to stay in Instagram and make the changes yourself. Instagram warns users to be careful about third-party access, and identifies unauthorized automated access, shared login details, and unauthorized interactions as possible reasons for suspicious-activity restrictions.

Not every third-party tool does the same thing. A tool that helps you read a list is different from one that logs in and performs actions for you, but that distinction does not automatically make either tool trustworthy.

What a tool asks forWhat to consider before using it
Your Instagram password, session cookie, or a codeTreat it as access to your account, not a harmless shortcut. Do not provide these to an untrusted service.
Permission to click or unfollow automaticallyAsk whether the interaction is actually authorized. “No password needed” does not establish that.
An uploaded account-data fileReview what the file contains and whether you are comfortable sharing it. Prefer reviewing locally when possible.
A promise to bypass restrictionsDo not use a cleanup tool to work around an active restriction. Stop the cleanup instead.

This is a decision checklist, not a tested ranking of apps. There is no need to hand over account access just to decide which creators you no longer want to follow.

If you already connected a questionable app, Instagram recommends reviewing recent login activity, removing suspicious access, changing your password when you see suspicious activity, and enabling two-factor authentication. Deal with that access before continuing the unfollow cleanup.

What to do when Instagram will not let you unfollow

A failed tap does not tell you by itself whether the issue is a temporary restriction or a technical problem. Instagram documents both restrictions related to suspicious activity and a separate reporting process for broken features, so follow the message you actually see rather than assuming every failure needs the same fix.

If you see a restriction message

Stop the cleanup and read the notice. Follow any instructions or timing Instagram provides, and do not use another tool to bypass the restriction. This guide does not promise a fixed recovery time; use the information shown for your account instead.

You can also check Status da conta for listed limitations, including Features you can’t use where shown. Instagram says this area can display feature restrictions and available review options; it does not say that every temporary unfollow limit must appear there.

If you see activity you did not perform, make account security the priority. Review login activity and connected access rather than repeatedly testing the Unfollow button.

If the button appears broken without a warning

Update the app first. If the issue continues, go to your profile, open the menu, select Help → Report a Problem, and follow the prompts; Instagram recommends including details about the device, what you were doing, and a screenshot where useful.

Describe the exact behavior: for example, “I confirm Unfollow, but the same profile still shows Following.” Do not include passwords, login codes, or unrelated private messages in the screenshot.

Want a quieter feed without unfollowing everyone?

If a handful of noisy accounts or irrelevant recommendations are the problem, use a more targeted control. Instagram offers separate ways to hide content, choose a feed view, and reset recommendations; those choices solve different problems.

Mute accounts you want to keep following

Mute hides an account’s content without ending the follow, and Instagram does not tell the person you muted them. You can still visit their profile and undo the mute later.

Use this when you want less content from a friend or colleague, not a broken connection. If you are unsure which control fits, our guide to Instagram features and actions explains the terminology; choose the control based on what you want to change, not which name sounds strongest.

Try Following or Favorites

Instagram's Seguindo view shows posts from accounts you follow in chronological order, without suggested posts. Favorites gives you a dedicated view of chosen accounts; Instagram documents accessing these options from the Instagram label at the top of Home.

Try those views before deleting connections just because your default feed feels noisy. Your actual problem may be the feed view rather than the accounts on your list.

Reset suggested content when recommendations are the issue

The reset tool addresses recommendations across Explore, Reels, and Feed. Meta describes reviewing and unfollowing accounts as an additional option during the reset, and says recommendations begin personalizing again as you interact with content.

In the app, go to your profile, open the three-bar menu, and select Content preferences → Reset suggested content. Review the terms and confirmation screens before confirming; Meta also describes an optional review of accounts you follow during this process .

Do not expect unfollowing everyone to leave the default app experience blank. Suggested posts come from accounts you do not follow, so reducing your Following list is not the same as removing recommendations.

Questions about clearing your Following list

Will people be notified if I unfollow them?
Instagram does not send an unfollow notification. That does not make the change invisible: someone can still notice that you are no longer following them, so do not confuse “no notification” with a guarantee of secrecy.

Does unfollowing someone remove them from my followers?
No. Unfollowing changes your connection to their account; removing someone from your followers is a separate action with separate controls. For a private account, Instagram documents opening Followers and selecting Remove beside the relevant person.

Can I undo a mass unfollow?
The documented workflow is individual unfollowing, and this guide did not find an official one-click restore for a cleared Following list. Revisit the profiles you want to follow again rather than relying on a bulk undo; the button on an unfollowed profile changes back to Follow. This is why a keep-list is useful before you begin. It is a review aid, not a backup that automatically restores connections.
