How to Get Your First YouTube Play Button: The 100K Guide
From 100K to Your Door
- Qualify: Your first award is Silver at 100,000 subscribers, subject to YouTube’s channel review and eligibility rules.
- Claim: Reviews can take up to 10 days; once approved, use your redemption code to order the award rather than waiting for automatic delivery.
- Receive: YouTube estimates delivery at approximately 2 to 3 weeks after redemption, not after the moment your counter reaches 100K.
If you’ve reached the milestone, the useful question is which stage you’re at: review, redemption or shipping. Start with the checks below, then follow the route that matches your situation.

When Do You Get Your First YouTube Play Button?
The first official YouTube Creator Award is the Silver Play Button at 100,000 subscribers; the published award tiers do not include a plaque for 1,000 or 10,000 subscribers. Reaching 100K does not guarantee an award, because YouTube reviews the channel and retains discretion over approval.
| Award | Subscriber milestone |
| Silver | 100,000 |
| Gold | 1,000,000 |
| Diamond | 10,000,000 |
| Red Diamond | 100,000,000 |
YouTube’s current published list has these four tiers, not a standard 50-million “Ruby” redemption tier. For your first claim, focus on Silver’s eligibility rules rather than descriptions of custom awards circulating online.
Check More Than Your Subscriber Count
YouTube’s eligibility checklist includes the following requirements, alongside the subscriber milestone:
- Recent uploads: The channel must be active, with uploads within the last six months.
- Community Guidelines: No active violation and none received in the previous 365 days.
- Copyright: No active copyright strikes or violations.
- Account standing: The channel must comply with YouTube’s Terms of Service, must not be terminated or linked to a terminated account, and must not have been rejected or suspended from the YouTube Partner Program.
- Content: The main content must be original and must not be deceptive, spammy or a scam; channels built around compilations, mixes, curation or heavy use of others’ copyrighted content or characters may be ineligible.
You do not need to be a YouTube Partner Program member to qualify, but that is different from having been rejected or suspended from it. The program is also unavailable in some countries and regions, so check the availability section of YouTube Help’s “YouTube Creator Awards” page before treating a missing award as a shipping problem.
Buying artificial subscribers is not a valid shortcut: YouTube prohibits artificial metric inflation and excludes subscribers identified as spam from the total. If you use outside promotion, review the methods rather than relying on promises that a package will unlock an award.
How to Claim Your Silver Play Button
YouTube says it will email you when you can redeem your award, and you may also see a banner in YouTube Studio. The claim uses a redemption code and a separate award-ordering website.

- Get your code. Copy the code YouTube sends. If you lost it or dismissed the Studio notification, search YouTube Help for “Check Your Creator Award Eligibility” and sign in to check the relevant channel and retrieve its code.
- Open the redemption site. In YouTube Help’s “YouTube Creator Awards” page, find the redemption instructions and follow the Creator Awards redemption website link, then enter your code.
- Enter the delivery details. Use your full legal name for shipping and provide a complete address; some countries require additional information such as a tax ID.
- Confirm the award name. Specify how you want your channel name to appear on the award, then select “Order Now” to complete redemption.
Treat the channel-name field and delivery-name field as two separate checks. Before submitting, read the spelling, address and contact details once more rather than rushing through the last screen.
If you’re still choosing a public name before redemption, our YouTube channel name ideas can help with the shortlist. Settle on the wording you want to keep before placing the award order.
How Long Does the Play Button Take to Arrive?
There are two different waiting periods: YouTube says eligibility reviews can take up to 10 days, while its delivery estimate is approximately 2 to 3 weeks after redemption. The delivery estimate is not a promise that your award will arrive within three weeks of reaching 100K.

After redemption, the order-confirmation email should arrive automatically; YouTube’s FAQ says the courier’s shipment-confirmation email should follow in about two weeks. Use that shipment email for the tracking number and delivery date rather than treating the general estimate as your parcel’s exact schedule.
The main help page’s 2 to 3-week delivery estimate and the FAQ’s roughly two-week shipment email describe different stages. Do not add them together as though YouTube promises a separate two-week production period followed by another three weeks in transit.
Reached 100K but Still Waiting?
Identify the last step you completed before deciding what to do next. A missing redemption code needs a different response from a parcel held at customs.
- No notification yet: If you reached the milestone recently, review may still be underway for up to 10 days; use the eligibility checker to check your channel rather than assuming delivery has begun.
- Notification received, code missing: The eligibility checker is also YouTube’s route for retrieving a misplaced code.
- Redeemed, but no email: Check spam for order or shipping confirmations, and follow the order-status link in YouTube’s award FAQs.
- Tracking shows a hold or delay: Contact the courier and answer requests for documentation; incomplete shipping details, fulfillment demand, customs, weather and holiday volume can delay delivery.
- The award arrived significantly damaged: Keep the award and its packaging, take photos, and report the damage to Society Awards through the form linked by YouTube within seven days of receipt; a complimentary replacement depends on return and evaluation of the original.
For a shipping issue that tracking does not resolve, use the production-team contact linked from YouTube’s shipping guidance. Keep your order confirmation and tracking details together so you can explain the problem clearly.

Other Questions About Your First Award
Is the Silver Play Button free?
YouTube provides one complimentary award per channel per milestone. You may still owe customs duties or taxes in certain countries, and YouTube says it cannot cover those charges.
Do Shorts views qualify you for a Play Button?
Views are not the milestone: the published criteria require subscribers, and they do not set a separate Shorts-view threshold for a Creator Award. The same published criteria apply when assessing a Shorts-focused channel; they offer no exemption from the subscriber milestone or review requirements.
Can my team order an extra copy?
Yes, you or your team can request additional paid awards through Society Awards using the email associated with the channel, although the channel and award level may be reviewed again. This is different from the significant-damage replacement process, and awards may not be sold or distributed outside your channel’s team.
Check Your Stage, Then Take the Next Step
If you’re waiting, start with the stage you can verify: eligibility, a redeemed order or a shipped parcel. Use the official route for that stage, keep the relevant emails, and check the details before assuming something has gone wrong.
